Airborne Forces |

| A recent addition to
the collection at the Museum is a display dedicated to the Parachute
Regiment & Airborne Forces. It contains a mixed collection of
memorabilia, dating from WWII, and up to the present day. This includes
weaponry, uniforms, parachutes and parachuting equipment, photographs
and paintings.
Although the display is still in its infancy, the Museum has already received many items of memorabilia from veterans, and presently serving members of the Parachute Regiment. Hopefully in the near future we will become the proud owners of an 18ft section of a WWII Horsa Glider. This will be an extra attraction, and especially to veterans who were transported to battle aboard these craft during WWII. Two of the Museum members are ex-paratroopers, and it was felt that such a display was appropriate to an Aviation Museum. Over the years a close relationship developed between Airborne Forces and the RAF, and of course paratroopers would not have reached their objective without the aircrew of the RAF. Dumfries & Galloway Aviation Museum is the only one in Scotland with a display dedicated to Airborne Forces, and it is hoped that the collection will grow in strength, and become an interesting and additional attraction to all visitors in the coming years.
